Carnival Procession

The 2022 procession theme is Planet Earth!

The Carnival procession has been a key event ever since the very first Carnival over 50 years ago and is the 2nd largest non-funded procession in the country.  Rumour has it that the procession can be seen from space, although we have yet to verify that!

Every Carnival the town comes together with over 10,000 people taking to the streets as local companies, clubs, friends and families get creative to build their float that follows the procession route around Saffron Walden.

The Carnival procession 2022 will take place on Saturday 9th July 2022, leaving the Common at about 14:00. The theme for this year’s procession is Planet Earth.

How to enter: Entries are now closed.

If a float isn’t for you, then you can still get involved by volunteering to help on the carnival weekend here.

If neither of these options are for you then please head to the streets on the procession day and support all our participants.

If you would like to see which events are happening this year please check out our other events now and book your tickets.

The route begins at 2 pm on The Common and travels through: East Street, Thaxted Road, Peaslands Road, Mount Pleasant Road, Borough Lane, London Road, High Street, George Street, Hill Street and back to The Common.

Start Time: Leaving the common at 14:00hrs to take on the 2.6-mile route.

Spectators: We welcome everyone to find a spot along the procession route.
