Who we are...
Formed in 1958 The Saffron Walden Round Table (SWRT) is a non profit fund raising organisation of young men between 18 and 45 who meet regularly for fun events with the odd bit of fund raising thrown in. We are part of the National Association, Round Table Britain and Ireland.
What we do...
Fun, Fun, Fun!! We have been Clay Pigeon Shooting, Punting, Go Karting, visited the Secret Nuclear Bunker, Ten Pin Bowling, Pool nights and much more! Each year a Programme Officer compiles an eclectic events diary which will appeal to all.
When we do it...
The SWRT meets every first and third Wednesday of the month. We often have group events at the weekends as well as weekends away pursuing various activity breaks.
Why we do it...
We are a bunch of guys, who get something out of our local community and want to spend time giving something back, such as the Annual Fireworks and our tri annual 8DayWeekend Carnival.
Jason Thomson
Chairman – Making sure everything runs smoothly!
"I only joined Round Table a short time ago and I haven’t looked back. With new life skills, new friends and being able to contribute to some of the biggest things that happen in our community is just a small part. You are never able to give back as much as you get out of it."
Stephen Woodard
Website and Sales – Co-ordinating Website and Ticket Sales
"My role is to ensure the website is designed and built to give the community all the information they need, as well as the opportunity to buy tickets online. Being part of the Round Table has given me opportunities to do things I wouldn’t normally have done. I’ve made many new friends and have had some great life experiences, but most of all I enjoy helping the community."
Nick Head

"My role involves documenting meetings and producing all the paperwork required – licensing, hall bookings, road closure application, charity licences applications, programme, staff manuals, etc.".
Ben Dawe
Treasurer – Looking after the Carnival finances
"My role is to account and project for every penny ensuring that we can have an event for the community to remember whilst to be in a position to donate profits back to the local community. I love the feeling of being able to make a difference to the local community, learning new skill and developing myself".
Ian Mercer
Sponsorship Director – Approach local businesses to help us put on this event
"Being a member of a fantastic organisation like Saffron Walden Round Table gives us the opportunity to come together with the community to raise much needed funds for local organisations. It is a privilege to be able to assist the local community in enjoying this awesome event."

Throughout Carnival week Ladies Circle are responsible for putting on events in the Town Hall to compliment what is going on in the Marquee, Ladies Circle help on the bar, doors etc etc and help support Round Table in putting on their ‘ 8dayweekend’ its hard work but we have lots of FUN and love to be part of it."
The Round Table
Man Power! Making it happen!
Collectively everyone in the Saffron Walden Round Table will be involved in the preparations and running of Saffron Walden’s tri -annual event. Without everyone’s dedication and support the Carnival couldn’t happen.
Every member of the SWRT gives up their free time and holidays to ensure that the Carnival is a success every time.
Keep an eye out for Round Table members in their Carnival fleeces, we don’t wear suits all the time!
